CANNES - The glove-puppet star of Jodie Foster's "The Beaver" has stolen the show at Cannes, leaving Mel Gibson in the dust.

The Beaver has been warmly received, unlike its costar. The small puppet was warmly received by Cannes audiences wherever he appeared, with (usually without) supporting antisemitic drunk Mel Gibson.  "It was amazing," said the pint-sized star.  "When we saw what the initial box office was, we knew this thing was a suitcase nuke," explains the Beaver.  "Still, everywhere I've gone, people have been very, very positive.  Mel, on the other hand, is getting booed everywhere for some reason.  He's been pelted three times with eggs and rotten fruit.  Poor guy."
