In my experience workers are often treated as children, and the most frustrating places to work are the ones that keep this 19th century practice alive and well in their idiotic policies, stupidly enforced by legions of brain-dead, semi-trained monkeys. The fact that moronic managers are using technology to keep their workforce in line is hardly news, but the extent of such stupidity these days is truly staggering. And Americans wonder how we're losing our inventive edge? Well that's easy when you're spending more of your intellect spying on people than inventing things.
I understand the need for virus protection and even firewalls at work, but just about anything else is a bad idea and waste of money. However, like most bad ideas that waste lots of money, it's an extremely lucrative sector for software companies.
