ATLANTA - French toast containing an image of Michael Jackson sold today on eBay for $59,000 to film director perv Roman Polanski.
The sale caused a temporary bread shortage across the mid-Atlantic seaboard as eager fans tried unsuccessfully to replicate what some are calling the "M.J. miracle," despite a last minute injunction plea from Joe Jackson, the late singer's father.
The toast was discovered by Emil Fudd of Stone Mountain, Georgia, outside Atlanta while he cooked himself breakfast Sunday afternoon. Fudd, an unemployed textile worker and long-time Jackson fan, reportedly screamed aloud when he saw the late singer's image in his toast only moments before taking a bite. The incident prompted Colonel Sam Whitey, mayor of Stone Mountain, to declare November 1st "Freedom Toast Miracle Day."
Local restaurants were quick to capitalize on the sale. Area iHop's have begun offering a "Miracle French Toast Special" that includes an image of the singer in powdered sugar, and local McDonald's now have a "Jackson Happy Meal" breakfast offering on their morning menus.
Film director Roman Polanski, the top bidder on the eBay auction, narrowly nosed out singer Stevie Wonder ($58,900) and actress Kirstie Alley ($58,700). Parody singer Weird Al Yankovic, reportedly a "huge Jackson fan" released a special iTunes cut of his 80s cult classic "Eat It" dedicated to the event.
"I am thrilled to have a piece of modern American history," said Polanski from his Swiss holding cell. "This time legally."
