TAKOMA - I.T. worker Bernie Slocum couldn't help but snicker today every time a coworker used the word "rack."
Slocum, long known for his geeky sense of humor, snickered throughout his company's server relocation project that started early this morning. "We powered off the servers and started stacking them to be moved," started Frank Durst, a co-worker, but was interrupted at "stacking." "Yeah, ok, ha ha," Durst said.
Although skirting sexual harassment laws, Slocum's boss, Herb McGillicuddy, doesn't believe Slocum has crossed the line. "There's only one woman who works in I.T.," said McGillicuddy, "and she wasn't offended or anything. [Slocum's] not directing anything at her, just laughing whenever anyone says 'rack.' It's more embarrassing for him than anything."
Having come to terms with Slocum's behavior, co-workers are working faster to get the servers moved so they don't have to deal with him anymore. "Basically, the guy [Slocum] is acting like a 12 year old," said Bill Dwight, LAN Tech and co-worker. "We just want to be done."
